Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration seeks an energetic, relational, and mission-driven professional to become Director of Welcoming and Development (DWD). Working closely with the rector, staff, and lay leadership, the DWD will lead the congregation’s welcoming ministries, helping us warmly engage with newcomers and connect them to our church’s mission and ministries. The DWD will also strengthen the culture of generosity through the annual pledge campaign, planned giving, and other donor opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity for a relational and strategic leader to help shape the future of a vibrant and growing church.

Transfiguration is a thriving church of 1,200 members in north Dallas with an annual budget of $2.7 million. We are widely known for our welcoming and affirming community, beautiful worship and music, robust formation for all ages, and far-reaching outreach ministries. Each year, we welcome hundreds of visitors, and we are eager to help more of them establish roots and become engaged members.

Giving to Transfiguration has grown significantly over the last decade, including the success of an $8 million capital campaign. As the church continues to grow and evolve, we seek to become more strategic in addressing increasing economic pressures and the demands of an active parish. This role is designed to strengthen both congregational engagement and philanthropic support by building systems, relationships, and strategies that help Transfiguration grow in belonging, generosity, and long-term sustainability.

The Director of Welcoming and Development will:

  • Lead and implement a comprehensive development and stewardship strategy that supports the mission, ministries, and long-term growth of the parish.
  • Increase congregational engagement and the percentage of visitors who establish an enduring connection within the life of the church.
  • Organize, equip, and support volunteer greeters and welcoming ministries to foster a warm, hospitable, and Christ-centered experience for visitors and members alike.
  • Develop and maintain systems for visitor follow-up, member engagement, donor stewardship, and philanthropic communication.
  • Manage the annual stewardship campaign in partnership with clergy, staff, and lay leadership, including campaign planning, communications, volunteer coordination, and donor engagement.
  • Cultivate and steward meaningful donor relationships, including annual, major, and planned giving opportunities, with particular attention to endowment and estate gifts.
  • Partner with the rector to identify and pursue strategic fundraising opportunities that advance the church’s mission and priorities.
  • Track and analyze giving trends, donor participation, and engagement metrics to inform strategy and support sustainable growth.
  • Maintain and oversee donor database systems and ensure accurate gift recording, reporting, and stewardship practices.
  • Help foster a parish-wide culture of generosity, gratitude, and joyful giving.

We are seeking candidates who possess:

  • Passion for the mission of the church and a commitment to fostering community, generosity, and belonging.
  • Professional experience in fundraising, development, stewardship, or nonprofit advancement.
  • Demonstrated ability in donor cultivation, relationship management, and philanthropic strategy.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and project management skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Experience managing databases, donor records, and giving analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect authentically with a wide range of people.
  • An outgoing, welcoming, and collaborative spirit grounded in humility, compassion, and professionalism.
  • The ability to work effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and lay leaders in a collegial environment.

The role is full-time (40 hours) and includes presence on Sundays, occasional presence for the Saturday evening service, one evening meeting per week (on average), and regular office hours.

Compensation will be commensurate with skill and experience, with salary range beginning at $80,000. Additionally[1],

  • Full individual health insurance
  • Four weeks paid vacation
  • Paid parental leave in the event of birth or adoption of a child
  • 9% contributions to the Church Pension Fund

Candidates are invited to submit their resume along with a cover letter expressing their interest and skills, with emphasis given to the candidate’s alignment with Transfiguration’s mission and values, to the Rev. R. Casey Shobe ([email protected]) by June 30. We hope to onboard the position by early August.
